Blockstar Field Hockey was founded in 2012 by Jill Dedman, a former USA National Team Goalkeeper.  An Orange, Connecticut native, Jill originally moved to California as part of the residency program with the USA National Team where she trained daily at the Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, CA.  Jill was a goalkeeper on the National Team from 2001- 2004, a member of the USA National Indoor Team from 2005-2006, then on the outdoor team again from 2006-2008.  

 

Jill traveled around the world for competition with the USA National Team, exposing her to different cultures and styles of play.  Most notably, she traveled to Perth, Australia for the World Cup, Johannesburg, South Africa for the Champion's Challenge, and Azerbaijan for the Champion's Challenge.  Other tours included the Netherlands, Germany, Japan, New Zealand, India, Austria, Canada, and Argentina for various competitions.

 

Jill attended Boston College where she was named All-Conference, All-American, Regional All-American, Academic All-American and twice named Big East Goalkeeper of the Year. Jill graduated cum-laude and was a member of the Golden Key National Honor Society.  A Human Development/ Elementary Education major she also went on to receive her Master's Degree in Educational Psychology.  In 2010 she was inducted into the Boston College Hall of Fame.

 

Jill began her coaching career at the University at Albany in Albany, NY where she coached three seasons before returning to the National Team.  She then coached two seasons in the Big Ten Conference as an Assistant Coach at Indiana University in Bloomington, IN. From there she moved west again to join the staff at the University of California in Berkeley, CA.  At each of the universities that Jill has coached, her goalkeepers have earned accolades such as America East Goalkeeper of the Year, All Big Ten Conference, and Norpac Defensive Player of the Year.  

 

Through Blockstar Field Hockey, Jill has consulted as a goalkeeper specialist with three Division I Programs:  Bucknell University, the University of California, Berkeley, and the University of Pacific.

In February and May of 2018, Jill was hired by the Canadian National Team to work with their goalkeepers of both the Senior National Team and the Junior program during their training camps.

 

Throughout her career as an athlete, Jill was fortunate to be trained by former Olympian keepers who were not only great teachers, but who instilled a passion in her to pass on the knowledge she gained from them.  She has now made it her mission to provide the same training she was lucky to receive to all keepers who have a genuine desire to improve.  

 

Jill developed Blockstar Field Hockey with the mission to make specific goalkeeping training available to anyone who seeks it!  Each year. training is available on both the east and west coasts!  Jill recognizes that all keepers are different.  The mission of Blockstar: To allow keepers to embrace their individuality and thrive in their own unique style and strengths while raising all aspects of their game!
